WHAT IS HYPNOSIS??
It is normal to go in and out of trance-like states many times throughout the day; when we daydream or drive home on autopilot, when we become engrossed in an activity and are unaware of how much time has passed or when we’re watching TV and don’t hear our name being called. Hypnosis is just an extension of these natural states of being where our focus of attention is much narrower than usual.
Hypnosis utilises the mind’s natural ability to enter trance to promote positive change. In normal waking consciousness, the more critical, analytical left-hemisphere of the brain tends to dominate. However, when we are in trance, it is the more creative righthand side which comes into play, making it easier for us to accept a different way of behaving or thinking about ourselves.
WHAT IS BRIEF SOLUTION FOCUSSED THERAPY?
Many therapies require the client to go over and over painful memories in order to gain insight into their particular condition with the focus of therapy centering around the problem. In brief solution focussed therapy, the focus is on looking at solutions, on how to get the client’s life back on track as quickly as possible, working with achievable goals which let the client know that they're making progress.
